As FIRST Tech Challenge teams, we meet after school to design, build, and program robots to compete in the challenge released by FIRST for the year. We also fundraise and reach out to our community to promote STEM education and the mission of FIRST. The season culminates at our competitions, where we compete both on the playing field and for judged awards based on an engineering portfolio and team presentation.
History
2020-21, ULTIMATE GOAL, was the first season our high school had a robotics team since 2015. Despite the pandemic and resulting restrictions on our ability to meet, team 18209 Deep Thought was able to create a robot and compete in four virtual competitions, ultimately earning a Second Place Judges’ Award at the state competition.
In 2021-22, FREIGHT FRENZY, we renamed and expanded our team from six to fourteen members. Competing in person for the first time, 18209 Full Stop improved on the previous season in their competition ranking and used many new marketing and outreach strategies.
2022-23, POWERPLAY, has been our best season yet. Competing alongside Full Stop, we started team 22671 Ellipsis. We had a very successful qualifier, with Ellipsis advancing to the semifinals and Full Stop qualifying for the RI state competition by winning the Think award for best documentation of the engineering design process. We look forward to competing at state in March!
